Liquid iron is so disgusting! I bought the version that is mixed with apple juice but I can still taste the rust very distinctly. I’m beginning to suspect that Adam prescribed me the liquid version instead of pills because it’s so gross I’m going to find more motivation to eat more iron-rich food so I can stop taking the supplement! In fact, “rust flavoured” is the bright side of it! I focus on that with effort so my mind won’t think “blood flavoured”. But whatever it is so disgusting!

Piers gave Betty away today. She was the car we used in the first 5 months of our relationship. She was the car that came to pick me up when I visited England the first time. She’s the only car I’ve driven in England. I’m going to miss you, Betty!

I’m grateful that my allergies are not life-threatening.

Beating Temptation

Temptation is a dirty fiend. We were watching the episode of The Apprentice where they had to make and sell gourmet doughnuts. I haven’t had one since, like, 2012 because they gave me severe heartburn. But OMG did I want one so badly tonight. I couldn’t even just grab a random sweet thing to eat to satisfy the sugar demon because I’m trying to only have sweets on special occasions. Life is so cruel!

I’m grateful for fruits! Had a sweet and juicy mango I had to wait a week to ripen adequately but it satisfied my need for sugary desserts!

Going to monthly WI meetings is going to test my willpower because they always serve cakes at the end of the meetings! I managed to resist the Victoria Sponge tonight and am very proud but I so miss the days when I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted!

But my efforts have paid off! My health score at Adam’s has improved again!

August Health Score – 62%
September Health Score – 73%
October Health Score – 77%

What is going on? Managed to sleep 8.5 hours without much trouble but Fitbit only recorded 4 minutes of deep sleep! Mind, you are not co-operating!

This box has been empty for a whole hour as I stared at it and wanted to fill it in but didn’t want to write anything that came to mind because I had a sudden upset and my mind is screaming and my heart is heavy.

Temptation and bribery

What I really feel like doing now is curl up in bed to read.

I’m getting into learning about 16th Century English court via not entirely reliable sources (Philippa Gregory novels) but all the same being more educational than reading, say, Archie comics (which I actually downloaded onto my iPhone).

But, in the interest of self-preservation, I shall not succumb to temptation. Not all the time, anyway, striving perhaps for an optimistic ratio of nine out of 10 times in which I should say “Bugger it all and give me my book.”

No, really. Temptation is evil and should not be yielded to nor employed, except during times when you need to bribe someone into, say, buying you a camera when you already have one but just because you’re greedy and want another one.

In such a case, bribery should offer something of value to your target.

You should discreetly pull him aside and whisper soothingly, even seductively, into his ear: “I will stop drawing funny comics about you if you buy me a new camera.”

And then you hope that he hasn’t yet fulfilled his quota of temptation-yielding for the week and will pick yours.

This has been a public service announcement.

You don’t have to thank me in the event of success in your own similar experiments.
