I made quite a number of incriminating videos recently, effectively destroying all my friends’ reputations. I think it’s pretty neat of them not to have already sent me lawyer letters. That’s why I love them, ay?
So I thought I’d make GGF today a video issue. I have a great selection of vids here. Take your time to watch ’em. You’ve got the whole weekend! And I hope you have a happy one! :)
I posted this in my recent Star Blog but I know some of you don’t like to go there so here’s the video for your benefit! It’s a video montage of our wild gaming session of Lips during Christmas. (Different from the ones I posted last week.)
By the way, Lips will be launching together with Scene It? in Singapore next weekend! Head over to Xbox Xperience Zones on Jan 10 and 11, 2009 (11 am to 5 pm) to enjoy the launch activities or take part in the Top Idol or Movie Guru competitions!
Just walk in on those days to sign up!
XXZs are located at Challenger, Funan and Best Denki, VivoCity.
This isn’t one of my videos, but reader terboo shared this with me recently and I simply must share it with everyone else.
This is the most awesomest little girl in the whole wide world! She amazes me! She’s so cute I want to kidnap her home!
Little bit of background, from the video description in YouTube. Her name is Melodie and she’s one year old. It only took a few days for her parents to go through the cards with her and she remembers them all!
I am drooling at upcoming games while my current games lie untouched.
Because a gamer is greedy. She wants to play all the games available now and she wants to play all the games not available now.
Her brain has suffered a slight permanent damage from having to endlessly wait for games that refuse to come out of development phase. (For example, can you believe that Warhammer Online has been in development for eight damn years?!)
But I’m not going to talk about WAR today; it’s overhyped anyway. I’m introducing a few of my favourite upcoming games. (Only a few because I don’t have space for everything.)
Don’t complain if your favourite isn’t mentioned. I can’t possibly read your mind, wot. So, if you want to read about or see a particular game in action, tell me. I’ll do my best to humour you.
Celebrity drummers Travis Barker (Blink 182) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) are co-conspirators in the making of the drumset for Guitar Hero World Tour!
Watch video!
I love Travis Barker. He’s my second favourite drummer next to Lars Ulrich (Metaliica).
See, I have his drumsticks!! *blush*
These are Travis Barker signature sticks from the Zildjian Artist Series. But they’re just for show. I can’t use them (to play real drums) cos they’re too heavy for me.
I mean, I could technically use them, but then I wouldn’t be able to play very well.
Back to the game.
Guitar Hero World Tour seems all set to kick Rock Band off the music charts! (Of course, there is Rock Band 2 brewing in the wings, so don’t lose your stock options yet.)
Travis Barker says about the GHWT drums: “Especially on the expert levels of Guitar Hero, where you’re nailing every note for note, it’s absolutely like playing what the drummer in that band is playing.”
That’s some incredible endorsement.
I’m ready to jump ship from being pro-Rock Band to being pro-Guitar Hero.
Who’s with me?
Guitar Hero World Tour is slated for an October 28 release for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii.
Not sure when we can expect to see it in Singapore, though.
There’s something very attractive about seeing a bunch of wholesome, sunshine, role-model superheroes thrown into a dark and violent place.
I don’t like fighter games, but I was immediately drawn to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, compelled to drop everything I was doing to watch the trailer, because it’s just such an unlikely matchmaking.
Raiden vs. Batman in the depths of hell! If it weren’t really cool, I would have found it immensely amusing.
Will try to get a copy to play when it comes out, even though I suck at fighters. November 3, 2008 is the date. Duh, I hate waiting, but that’s a gamer’s lot in life, wouldn’t you say?
Yay, here’s another superhero MMORPG, although this one is console-specific (PS3).
DC Comics sure is ambitious, franchising its heroes out everywhichway.
This game reminds me of City of Heroes very much and I had a lot of fun playing that. Of course, we won’t be seeing DC Universe Online until next year, so have fun waiting.
In the meantime, we can dream about the kind of superhero we want to create.
In COH, my character was named The Daughter (inside joke):
I also created a Lara Croft lookalike just for kicks:
Me and my friends shared many good times and many a bloody, violent battle.
Aww, I miss my superhero friends so much. I can’t wait for DCUO!
Due to my recent busy schedule, I’m turning to Xbox LIVE for quick gaming fixes. LIVE has tons of fun arcade-style games that you can download (for a small fee) and play almost immediately.
Plus you can earn gamerscore and achievement points on them. People can be such sluts for virtual points.
So, I made the Goonfather help me download Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm while I finished up my work. He sampled a few levels before I went to join him (to secretly videotape him playing)! Hehe!
Well, it’s a silly game. But it might appeal to sadistic kids who enjoy seeing cute cartoon animals get mashed to pulp.
This is a funny little gadget. I wonder if we’ll ever see it in Singapore.
The Jinsei Game of Life pedometer will beat the couch potato out of you because you can only advance by leaving your sorry couch.
This tiny little gadget contains a simple version of the Game of Life board game we’re all familiar with. The catch is that you have to take 300 physical steps in the physical world in order to spin the wheel and take a turn. If not, the gadget simply won’t allow you to advance.
Pretty neat!
You might not want to buy it for your kids or nephews or nieces, though. It’s not like they’re not already way too hyper. With this, they’re gonna have a legitimate excuse to zip around the house maniacally, getting underfoot unnecessarily and just generally drive everyone nuts.
Buy it for your lazy ass spouse or sibling or colleague, instead.
Thanks to IAHGames, FIFA Online 2 will be launching in Singapore soonish.
It will also launch in Thailand at the same time, although a date hasn’t been confirmed yet. Other regions — Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines — will get it later.
You can sign up for the closed beta test, which commences on August 5. Not much longer to wait!
Thai players can sign up here for the Thai version of the game. But I don’t think I have any Thai readers, so this will have been a few lines of wasted pixels that can never be recovered.
Here’s a photo taken at the recent FIFA Online 2 press conference in Thailand:
I’m sure you don’t really care who the three blokes in the middle are because the models on the sides are grabbing all your attention.
So, here’s a close-up for you because I’m nice!
Awwww.
Well, this is the only picture I have, so stop gawking already and go sign up for the CBT!
Ask me any gaming-related questions! Post them in the comments or e-mail me, I don’t really care. I will try to answer all questions.
jesse5762 asks an Initial D Extreme Stage question:
Would you happen to know if it works with the Logitech G25 Racing wheel?
Sheylara Says:
It does, partially, which means that the game will only recognise the wheel turn for 90 degrees either way. So, maybe it’s not that good an idea to use that wheel for this game.
sdutango asks a similar Initial D Extreme Stage question:
So I read your blog, you said it partially works with G25. But will that work with 900 degrees? Thanks.
Sheylara Says:
Nope, the Logitech G25’s 900 degrees is wasted on this game, sadly. Like I said above, you can only go as far as 90 degrees.
liting asks a Wii question:
I just bought my Wii 2 days ago, mod Jap set. It was doing fine on the first day but after I tried connecting to the Internet and did a Wii update, I received an error message: “Error Occurred. Press the eject button and remove the disc. Turn the power off and follow the instructions in the console manual.”
When I try to play some games, it only happens to a few games and the rest are not affected. I am sure its not the disc problem cause i was playing it on the first day I bought my Wii. May I know how to resolve this? =((
Sheylara Says:
Sorry, but I wouldn’t know what your exact problem is without being there to see it for myself. My guess is that when you did an online update, you updated a security feature which prevents the console from playing modded games.
If anyone has the definitive answer to the above question, feel free to share in the comments section! :)
No, no, I’m not giving out a used set. The winner of this week’s contest will receive a brand new Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000, never before opened and touched by human hands.
HOW TO WIN THIS BABY!
Starting today, up till July 31, vote for me DAILY in the S’pore Blog Awards!
(You knew that, somehow, I would work this voting thing in, didn’t ya?)
Then, post a comment in my blog each day to let me know that you’ve voted for me!
One vote per day, one comment per day, until July 31!
You’ll go into the draw for the prize if you do that!
Note: If you don’t live in Singapore, please agree to bear the cost of postage and packaging if you win the prize. This thing is heavy and I’m going broke mailing out prizes every week!
Feel free to e-mail me if you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about.
Gamer Girl Friday is slightly late today because I only started working on it this morning, can you believe? I don’t know how my week just gets packed without warning, week after week. It’s getting ridiculous, if you ask me.
But, busy or not, I need my weekly gaming fix so GGF will go up weekly no matter what!
We’re also seeing more and more gaming-related events happening in Singapore, which is great!
You guys know what to do! Support these events. Take part in them. It will pay back in the long run because it will help the gaming industry grow. It can only benefit us in return.
So don’t be a couch potato gamer. Get out there and party!
By the way, the best gaming party so far is still the Xbox 360 birthday party couple months back.
Well, I could care less whether people think I’m 10 or 40. My age is not really the point. The point is I’m amused that Americans (mostly) still enjoy making a big deal of female gamers.
We know that they know that we exist. And in large numbers, too. And they know that we know that they know. And yet the charade continues.
People are too free! =)
Well, it’s entertaining, anyway, so I hope they don’t stop!
I’ve never played any Civilization games but I know the series is hugely popular and I’ve seen the Goonfather stuck to his PC for hours, playing the game.
He recently showed me this trailer which he downloaded from the PS3 network and I must say it’s got me hooked.
The trailer is very nice. It’s got lots of awe-inspiring quotes from great historical men, like:
I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep, I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion. — Alexander the Great
The best part is that the game is coming out on the DS!!! I am so gonna get it. (Because, unfortunately, I seem to only have time to play the DS these days while commuting.)
It will also be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360, in July, if you’re interested.
Here’s a really cool gaming event you can be part of.
In fact, I’m going to be part of it. I’ve signed up for Adidas UEFA EURO 2008 tournament happening on June 28, where 128 players will pit their football skills against one another!
Come and see me get licked horribly!
(To be honest, I’ve never played a single football game in my life. Wait, I’ve never even played real life football!!)
There will be lots of wonderful, exciting prizes given out at the event for both contestants and passers-by.
So, even if you’re not taking part in the tournament, you can just come and answer questions or test your skills at the skill stations to win vouchers and knick knacks from Adidas.
For tournament participants, stand a chance to win a PS3 console, an official match ball of EURO 2008, customisable Adidas football boots, EA game vouchers and more!
DETAILS!!!
How To Take Part
Buy $80 worth of Adidas products at Adidas outlets in The Cathay, VivoCity, Suntec or Cineleisure. Check out the in-store promotional material for the rules and regulations.

Sheylara was increasingly amazed at the divine help she’d been getting since being tossed into this violent new world.
First, she mysteriously acquired this weirdass power to throw white dazzling light at people to fry them.
Then, she got arrow thingies pointing the way to important places to pick up important objects (such as meat cleavers) to give to important people wanting them.
Smooth, thought Sheylara.
Gathering a meat cleaver and rolling pin and roll of leather in this way, Sheylara ran back to the old man to whom the items belonged.
“Oh, I say,” said the old man. “Awfully kind of you, my dear.”
He gave Sheylara a rusty piece of tin for her trouble.
“Here, that ought to buy you a lick of ale at the inn.”
“Yeeeeeeeeees!” Sheylara rejoiced and danced. “I have a tin! I have a tin!!”
The jubilant barbarian girl consulted her little arrow friend and found the inn in no time.
Then she tried to find someone who could help her get settled in properly.
“Excuse me…,” started Sheylara.
“Oh, alright!” complained the warrior-looking woman grudgingly. “You can have a quest.”
“Wha—”
“Go talk to the old woman up on a hill.”
“Excuse me?”
“That’s all you’re going to get from me!” screeched the woman. “All you soft newbies always want clues! Hints! Walkthroughs! Power levelling! You are a useless bunch of nincompoops! Now stop bothering me and go talk to the old woman up on a hill!”
Refusing to be defeated, Sheylara tried another.
“Um…,” she said.
“Yes, I need an errand run. Go find a city guard and pass him this message for me.”
“But—”
“Be off with ya, then.”
Almost in tears, Sheylara retreated to a corner of the inn to try and make sense of things. She didn’t quite understand why everyone just wanted her to do stuff for them.
“Psst!”
Sheylara was suddenly jolted out of her thoughts.
“Psst! Little lady!”
Turning around, she saw a vision.
“You musn’t be discouraged, young one,” said a beautiful woman all dressed in white. “It is only through hardship and trials that we discover our destiny.”
“But I just want a cream soda. And a place to sleep for the night,” said Sheylara miserably.
“Come now, my dear. Sleep is for the weak. Why, there are some adventurers like yourself who do this continuously for 48 hours or more, stopping only for toilet breaks and to call the pizza delivery service.”
“Really?” said Sheylara doubtfully.
“Don’t fret, my dear. You will learn our ways and you will find your destiny. Here, this will help you.”
The woman in white handed Sheylara a hugeass hammer.
“I can tell that your destiny is to fry enemies with the light of Mithra from afar. But sometimes, those brainless mobs will get too close and that is when you’ll need to clobber them with this hammer.”
“But this is—”
“Seek an island south of the city. There, you will find further instruction.”
With that, the woman shimmered away into a mist of nothingness.
“Holy crikey,” breathed Sheylara.
Trying on the hammer for size, Sheylara the barbarian looked up into the night sky and marvelled at the strength and courage she suddenly felt infusing her.
As you all know, a handful of readers got to attend the Cathay/Sony digital movie system launch event with me last week. (I hope you guys had fun!)
We played Tekken 5 Online in the cinema auditoriam itself. That was super, super cool.
Anyway, that’s the beauty of the new digital movie system. Now, we can watch or play anything in the movie theatre (only at The Cathay) without being limited to traditional 35mm film reels!
I want to play Rock Band in there!! Can you imagine what it would be like?
Me and Timothy took a picture in front of the big screen while people were playing the game.
It was supposed to be a tournament, but I think the organisers decided last minute that it wasn’t very fair because there was limited time and not everyone would get to compete, so they decided to lucky draw the prize of a PS3.
Some stranger got it, bummer.
We watched Don’t Mess with the Zohan after that. Well, this is technically a gaming column so I shouldn’t be talking about movies, but it’s a damn good show. I never knew Adam Sandler could be that sexy. He literally oozes charisma and sex appeal throughout the show.
Okay, I’m seriously waiting for someone to organise a Rock Band party or tournament in the movie theatre. It will rock serious ass.
Ask me any gaming-related questions! Post them in the comments or e-mail me, I don’t really care. I will try to answer all questions (unless I get like 500 questions a day).
Dexter Tiah asks an Xbox 360 question:
I encountered some problems when trying to connect to Xbox Live. How do you connect? Wired or wireless? Do u need some special hardware like Microsoft wireless adapter to play? And what if my IP is wrong or MTU has exceeded?
Sheylara Says:
You can connect to Xbox Live either wired or wirelessly. Yes, you need to buy a wireless device if you want to go wireless. As for your IP and MTU, well, you’ll have to understand that it’s a bit hard to troubleshoot such problems remotely.
I can direct you to a fantastic guide on xbox.com, though.
I’ve read somewhere that the Goonfather ranks the PS3 above the Xbox360. Why is that? What are PS3’s greatest points? Thinking of perhaps getting one in the near future. Thanks in advance…
Sheylara Says:
The Goonfather ranks the PS3 above everything else because he’s a Sony fanboi. Haha. Well, the good things about the PS3 are the Blu-Ray player and the slightly better graphics, although I think the Xbox 360 Elite gives the PS3 a run for its money (haha the Goonfather hates this phrase).
But he’s getting very irritated with Sony now because the Asian market is largely neglected and there is virtually no support. For example, the latest download from the PS3 Asia network is some game trailer from last year.
I’d still stick with the Xbox 360 for its superior games library and unsurpassed Xbox Live experience and wonderful local support, all of which I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you about. ;)
Best, though, is to buy both! We do use both of them quite equally!
ryo hazuki asks a gender question:
Do you think more girls in Singapore would pick up gaming if it was advertised more? Or are there not enough games that are appealing to girls right now?
Sheylara Says:
The number of girl gamers is already increasingly at a respectable rate, I feel. Game developers are already doing their best to produce games that appeal to girls, so I think that area is covered. Maybe advertising is the key.
I think what we need is a girl gamer movement, some organisation that brings girl gamers together and organises activities that will appeal to girls. Make it something very exclusive and hip and happening, you know? Kinda like the women credit card campaign — the men don’t get it kinda thing.
Also, what we really need is for guys to buy games and gadgets for their girlfriends and pay for all their gaming subscriptions! =P
People always ask me, “What games are you playing now?”
My answer is, “I don’t have time to play games nowadays because I’m kept so busy writing about games and attending gaming events and writing about them! (Among other things.)”
I’m ashamed of myself. How can a gamer girl not play games?
I shall endeavour to game more in the coming weeks.
Well, you know what, I’ve got a Rock Band jamming session tomorrow night (after three weeks of not playing). I’m going to rock the house down.
Argh, okay, I suppose it won’t be a secret anymore after I blog about it. Damn, bloggers have got no privacy at all!
So, I am now secretly infatuated with drummers. *blush* Well, alright, it’s only secret to people who don’t read my blog. But I don’t think any drummers read my blog so my secret is safe.
Yes, I’m infatuated with all of them! Um, okay, maybe particularly the good looking ones. A girl has to be discerning where she directs her infatuations.
It all started eons ago when I watched a Metallica tour video and noticed Lars Ulrich, who is not really good looking but his drumming more than makes up for it — he’s like the god of drummers.
Even now, after so many years of listening to Metallica, my heart still skips beats listening to him play.
So I’ve always sub-consciously enjoyed good drum grooves but never thought to take lessons myself until recently when I got influenced by Rock Band, which I know is a freaking lame reason to pick up any musical instrument, but that’s how it goes, so I am suddenly paying more attention to drummers. (I used to only have eyes for Lars.)
I saw this band on Monday night at Nokia Connection 2008 (an event which I will blog about another day because there’s so much info and photos to sort through)!
After a cursory photo of the whole band, I zoomed in on the drummer, whose name is Edmund.
He is so cool!
He’s using black Vic Firth signature drumsticks, how cool is that??!??! It is so cool!
His drumming posture (I dunno what else to call it) is so cool. I mean, seriously, I have no other word than cool. Cool says it all, I’m sorry.
Edmund’s like the best-looking member of the band, so like I took a video! Heehee!
The Goonfather is going to kill me, of course, but… don’t care lah. If he can have his infatuations on cute Korean girls and Angelina Jolie, I can have my infatuations on drummers! Hehe!
Oh, video!
I didn’t catch him at his best moments but I was really quite busy at the event and this was the only moment I was available to stand there and watch.
The best part of it is that he’s entirely self-taught! I don’t know how these people do it!!!! How can anyone teach themselves to play like that?
I’m not in any position to critique drumming, so I shan’t comment on his skill. But I think he looks good and sounds good on stage, so it’s all good!
Apparently, all members of the band PeepShow are self-taught! Can you beat that? I am totally flummoxed. (I JUST FELT LIKE USING THAT WORD!)
Go check out PeepShow’s profile and blog and support the band because it’s cool to support local acts and these boys are actually pretty good (great music and great showmanship)!
They won some band contest in 2005 and have just released their first EP, which got good reviews in TODAY and Time Out. You can buy their album at HMV!
Best of all, they’re all so friendly and down-to-earth!
Yes yes yes… I spoke to them later that night (well, particularly Edmund, because he approached me because he saw me unabashedly taking videos of him). AND I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO TAKE A PHOTO WITH THEM.
(I did have a photo with a couple of Nokia models, of which there were TONS that night. Look forward to seeing them in my next blog entry about the event!)
(I feel so short and dowdy sandwiched between them. And I’ve got that silly Nokia lanyard name tag which guests had to wear. I mean, it’s a nice lanyard, but it doesn’t quite go with my dress that night.)
So I forgot to take a photo with the band, bummer. (I think I had six too many martinis. There was a really mean martini bar at the event.)
No I’m not turning into a groupie. It just sounds that way. I’m not, really.
I’m just infatuated with drums! And drummers.
Maybe if I ever get as good as them (I mean the pros), I’ll stop being infatuated. Right now, they’re all amazing to me.
Until then, though, it’s costing me an arm and a leg to get there. Make that two arms and two legs. $50 a week for lessons + $50 a week to practise at the studio ($5.50 an hour).
That comes up to more than $400 a month!! I don’t even make that amount of money some months (told you I’m poor)!!
Gamer Girl Friday is busy being an actress this whole week, so have had less time to devote to this week’s column.
If you find it in any way lacking, please divert all your complaints to the Goonfather. I asked him to help me do some research and give me some topics to write about, but he played the busy card.
Yeah, he’s busy alright. He’s busy every night playing Ninja Gaiden II and Pixel Junk Monsters and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (freaking old game!).
I’m really sorry. I very suck at action fighter games. Well, we can’t all be good at everything.
I hardly ever play this genre of games and I didn’t even know who Ryu Hayabusa was prior to my involvement with the recent NG2 Xbox 360 launch campaign.
Just be warned that I will be very painful to watch.
(Before you go on, please check your own IC. If you’re under 18, you’re not allowed to watch it because it’s a violent game!)
Wear out your keyboard on this Guitar Hero III widget! It has only three songs, but it’s fun enough. Play it here!
Apparently, if you stay in the top ten leaderboard, you can win prizes from Rocket XL and Activision.
Not for me. On my second try on Easy mode, I only got like 75,000 points. The current highest legal score is 657,987. WTF? (I think the top three are illegal because their scores are like 999999999999.)
Well, I’m not playing anymore because I’d rather play the real GH3. Then again, if I had the time, I’d rather play Rock Band… until Guitar Hero World Tour comes out!
Well, the Goonfather not only didn’t help me do research for interesting stuff to talk about, he forced me to talk about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot (what a mouthful).
He said, “You must write about it! It’s… it’s… well, it’s Metal Gear Solid!!!”
Yeah, like I care.
Well, ok. I have to admit that, although I only started becoming a console gamer last year (largely because of Wii and Guitar Hero and Rock Band), I have seen the previous installments of MGS and I really enjoyed watching people play it.
I prefer watching rather than playing myself because the game goes faster that way. If you’ve watched my NG2 video (above) till the end, you’ll know what I mean.
Anyway, one of the most interesting things about MGS4 are the beauties. Auditions were held around the world to seek the most beautiful women to serve as models for MGS4 characters.
I’m jealous. I want to be a game character, too.
Lyndall Jarvis, a famous USA model who has modelled for brands such as Guess and Bebe.
Scarlett Chorvat, a Hollywood actress and fashion model, last seen in Entourage and 24.
Yumi Kikuchi, a multi-talented Japanese artiste who can be seen in Godzilla: Final Wars.
Mieko Rye, a USA fashion model whose Maxim swimsuit spread has slain many a man.
Well, you’ll be seeing these faces in-game soon! MGS4 releases in like less than a week!
Sheylara couldn’t wait to get into the city of Tortage now that she’s got her hair done and all.
As the kind-hearted and innocent barbarian girl walked towards the city gates, she chattered excitedly to her friend, Casilda, “What shall we do first thing we get inside?”
Casilda turned evasive, like she’d done when they’d been ambushed earlier. “Um… we’ll see.”
Not noticing because she was so excited, Sheylara continued, “Well, of course, I will want a cream soda first.”
The girls stopped right in front of the gates, where they were met by an imposing man wearing a huge question mark above his head.
He was busy barking orders at a quivering soldier but he spotted the girls and yelled, “Halt! Who goes there!” giving Sheylara an awful fright.
Casilda giggled. “Aww, sweetie Laranga, it’s me. I love when you exert your authority!”
Laranga’s eyes softened. “Yer all right, gal. Go on in.”
As Casilda went through the gates, Sheylara tried to follow.
She was stopped.
“Not so fast. Where do you think you’re going, delinquent?”
“I…” began Sheylara.
Casilda giggled and winked at Sheylara. “See you on the inside, babe!” And then she disappeared into the city.
“But…” repeated Sheylara, flustered.
“All delinquents must prove their worth before being let in!” boomed Laranga.
“But…” Sheylara attempted again.
“The blacksmith needs help. Go to him.”
He gestured vaguely at a direction before returning his attention to the still quivering soldier.
Disappointed and confused, muttering curses at Casilda, Sheylara trudged wearily away.
Before long, she came upon a scary-looking man with black stripes on his face.
He was just standing there, not doing anything much.
In his hand was a hammer but Sheylara couldn’t see an anvil anywhere in sight.
“Excuse me,” said Sheylara. “That man over there said you needed help?”
“Right,” said the blacksmith. “You go through there, wind ’round the lake a bit, cross a bridge, get past a couple nasty pirates (you might haveta kill ’em), there’s some bricks them pirates have stolen. Get ’em for me.”
Sheylara gaped at him, confused. “You want me to fetch you bricks?”
“Them’s the orders, miss.”
“Kill pirates?”
“Them’s the orders, miss.”
“But you’re just standing here doing nothing!”
“Them’s the orders, miss.”
“But…”
But the blacksmith had turned into stone and just stood there impassively, waiting for his next showtime.
Indignant but not having a choice, Sheylara went off to do as she was told. Night was looming and she didn’t want to have to sleep out in the open.
Well, it’s a surprise to me, anyway. The game is supposed to release next Tuesday and I haven’t heard anyone talk about it.
Nobody I know ever talks about Dragon Ball games. Nobody I know ever plays them.
But what’s remarkable is that I posted a video clip of the gameplay two months ago on YouTube and I’ve gotten over 100,000 views, 285 comments and 109 favourites for just that little pixelated clip.
I’ve also gotten at least two pirates stealing my clip and reposting it on YouTube as their own. (That’s why I watermark all my videos now.)
Here’s the clip!
I do like Dragon Ball but more specifically the manga. I love it! I just can’t quite get into the movies and the games. The anime is alright, but the manga pure owns.
So, what do you think? Do you know anyone who is buying or planning to buy Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit?
As part of last week’s contest, I got readers to share interesting or funny gaming encounters they’ve had.
A lucky draw was conducted to pick a winner.
The lucky winner is Aves! He went home with a brand new Ninja Gaiden II box (kindly sponsored by the Xbox 360 team in Singapore) on official launch day, no less!
Here is Aves’ winning entry:
When playing Team Deathmatch in COD4, we often need to tell our team mates the locations of the enemy. So one fine day, when playing in the Chinatown map from the latest map pack, our dearest Smoe starts telling us that the enemy is in the MUSHROOM SHOP. This went on for a few weeks without anyone ever knowing where the heck the mushroom shop is at.
Finally, we all couldn’t take it and we created a private match. Asked everyone to cease-fire and made Smoe lead us to the Mushroom shop. So everyone gathered at the main road in Chinatown and Smoe led us into a house and started showing us the mushrooms…
Upon first look, I saw that those were fishes and furthermore, there were lobsters beside those fishes so I was pretty sure.
Me: WTF, these are fishes la!!!! Smoe: Oops ok, these are fishes. The mushrooms are here!
*brings us to the room next door*
Me: OMG!! These are mussels! -_-”””””””
I proceeded to bring Smoe outside the shop and showed him the signboard stating:
KAR PG CO (large fonts) Fish Market (small fonts)
From then on, we all call the place the mushroom shop even though we know it’s a fish market.
For those interested in knowing where the mushroom shop is, check out this link.
Moral of the story: Read signboards
Thank you, Aves, and congratulations! How’s Ninja Gaiden II so far, eh? ;)
Well, modchip doesn’t live in Singapore, so I couldn’t hand him the prize personally. So, I’ll have to mail it to him!
modchip wins a copy of GTA4 for the Xbox 360 for taking part in the “Review Gamer Girl Friday” contest.
I had tasked readers to write a review of my column. Best review wins.
I think all entries were really good and I wish I could award everyone a prize. But I finally picked modchip’s entry because it’s evident that he spent a lot of time on the screenshots, which he collaged into a nice overall image of Gamer Girl Friday!
Click to read his entry
Thank you and congratulations! Your prize will be mailed to you soon!
I would also like to make special mention of some of the entries that I really liked but I unfortunately don’t have more than one prize to give out.
-=}{oT~dEv1L 666=- wrote a really long and flattering entry (although he is underaged and therefore not eligible for the contest, lol).
Ask me any gaming-related questions! Post them in the comments or e-mail me, I don’t really care. I will try to answer all questions (unless I get like 500 questions a day).
Hun Boon asks a Rock Band question:
Can you use the guitar from Guitar Hero 3 for Rock Band?
Sheylara Says:
It depends on which console you’re playing on.
On the PS3, the GH and RB guitars are not compatible with each other.
On the Xbox 360, you can use GH guitars on RB, but not the other way round.
On a side note, Rock Band is still not available for the Asian region code Xbox 360 and there is still no ETA. We’ve become thumb-twiddling experts.
fanatic86 asks an Age of Conan question:
Sheylara, may I know what server and guild you’re in on AoC? How about coming to Gwahlur to join us? There’s a big Singaporean guild here and it’s very fun.
Sheylara Says:
I’m in Old Timers Guild in Thog, which has many Singaporeans, too. But I do also know many people in Gwahlur. It’s just that I chose Thog because I hate PvP. :P
But, anyway, I really hardly have time to play AoC now. I am still at level 10!!!! All the same, thanks for the invitation. Maybe I’ll create a character in Gwahlur when I have a bit of time, just to say hi! ;)
rajiv asks a Wii question:
I got a Japanese Wii and I set up the Internet using your translater. Now, when I click on the Wii shop, it says something in Japanese and the only button there is is to go back to the main menu. I cannot access Wii shop.
Sheylara Says:
Sorry, but I can’t help you unless I know what the page says! Next time, send me a screenshot and I’ll see if I can help.
Well, I’m not getting 500 questions a day, which is actually a good thing because, otherwise, my e-mail would bust, along with the capillaries in my brain.
But keep those questions coming! Let’s see some funny questions, too, because I’m tired of answering serious questions. Haha.
I’m tired of giving away games, so here’s something different for a change.
How about a thumb drive? I’ve got a snazzy looking Nokia N-Gage thumb drive which comes with a lanyard!
One could never have too many thumbdrives, I always say. I used to have a sleek Sony one, but it stopped working only after a few months. Sad!
Okay, the rules this week!
Ask me an interesting or funny question (doesn’t have to be but preferably gaming related).
You can post here or e-mail me.
You can use a pseudonym if you wish.
My favourite question wins the prize!
There is no closing date for questions, of course, but I’m awarding the thumb drive next Friday, so if your question comes after that, well, that’s that, then.
