Battle of the Lips

I posted this in my recent Star Blog but I know some of you don’t like to go there so here’s the video for your benefit! It’s a video montage of our wild gaming session of Lips during Christmas. (Different from the ones I posted last week.)

By the way, Lips will be launching together with Scene It? in Singapore next weekend! Head over to Xbox Xperience Zones on Jan 10 and 11, 2009 (11 am to 5 pm) to enjoy the launch activities or take part in the Top Idol or Movie Guru competitions!

Destroying good songs with SingStar

After our Lips party, my friends got into a singing craze and one of them bought SingStar Vol. 2.

Unfortunately, they didn’t know many of the songs in there. And the rules of the game took a bit getting used to.

Watch how they butchered the songs and argued with each other. (I had to download a censor beep for this video. Haha!)

Cosplaying Rock Band

Remember the Nuffnang Christmas party I just attended? We went back to play Rock Band 2 after the party, still in our costumes!

The music in this video is Uno by Muse but that’s not a Rock Band song. I just happen to love that song so wanted to use it for something. Heh.

Cutest gamer girl ever

This isn’t one of my videos, but reader terboo shared this with me recently and I simply must share it with everyone else.

This is the most awesomest little girl in the whole wide world! She amazes me! She’s so cute I want to kidnap her home!

Little bit of background, from the video description in YouTube. Her name is Melodie and she’s one year old. It only took a few days for her parents to go through the cards with her and she remembers them all!

My bro (not real) Swordplay sent me this vid.

It’s not exactly a game thing but the guy is playing a soundtrack from a popular game (Legend of Zelda) so it’s kinda relevant.

He is really amazing. I wish I had that kind of talent And he looks pretty cute, too! ;)

Behind the scenes of You’re in the Movies

You’re in the Movies is our new gym! It’s exhausting, but so, so fun.

The first time we made a movie, half our faces and bodies were missing in all the scenes because we didn’t have a clean background for the green screen effect to work.

(Here’s the “spoilt” video just in case you’re bored and want to watch it, but I wouldn’t recommend it.)

So, the next time, we came up with a solution: A DIY studio backdrop!

It’s very primitive. Don’t laugh.

We arrived at Wang Wang’s place bright and early to prepare our set.

We bought 20 pieces of mahjong paper to stick together into a giant sheet, but we only used 12 pieces cos it was damn tedious lah.

And then it was done!! =)

All we had left to do was stick it on the ceiling! That took a bit of time because we had to experiement with different kinds of sticking devices: adhesive tape, mounting tape, blu-tack?

After a lot of fussing around, we finally discovered that the only thing that really worked well was masking tape. LOTS AND LOTS OF IT.

Some of the paint in Wang Wang’s ceiling came off when we removed our screen (oh dear) but she, being such a dear, said, “IT’S OKAY!! LET’S PLAY AGAIN NEXT WEEK!”

She is such a sport! I feel sorry for her ceiling but I love her to death!

Morte, who is her hubby and who owns half the ceiling, said, “It’s okay. Next time we move house you help us paint our walls can already.”

Anyway, I already showed you videos of the movies we made, so here’s a video of us making the movies!!

It’s really crazy. Crazy fun!! =)

Rock Band 2 surprise

Minou and Kerrendor recently bought Rock Band 2 and invited us over to play.

They had a surprise… for Unker Kell.

Unker kell is the lead singer in Club Morte, our Rock Band group.

Problem was, the Goonfather, who is our lead guitarist, was so enamoured of the mic stand that he usurped Unker Kell’s job that night.

And he wasn’t content with just being a singer. He also wanted to hang on to his guitar!

So… he made himself singer-guitarist.

Kerrendor, lead bassist, tried his hand at singing-guitaring as well, but found it a bit harder because he didn’t know any of the songs very well.

It IS really hard because you need to look at two things at once on the screen.

Rock Band 2

Last I heard, the guys want to buy the angled kind of mic stand, next, so the drummers can sing-drum. (Minou and I are our group’s drummers.)

That’s pretty crazy. I think I will stick with just drumming, thank you.

Rock Band 2 isn’t very different from Rock Band 1. You just have new songs, but everything else is pretty much the same.

You can buy and attach three extra cymbals to the RB2 drumset, but they are mostly cosmetic and don’t actually give you extra lanes to play in the game. Each cymbal will have one colour that corresponds with the default drum pads, and you can hit either the drum pad or the cymbal for a different sound. That’s ALL!

Disappointing.

We didn’t buy the cymbals because we can’t find them in Singapore yet. (They’re sold by a third-party vendor.)

Check out this video of our first night playing Rock Band 2. You can see the Goonfather hogging the mic stand all night. Haha.

Grand Theft Auto IV for PC! Yay!

It’s taken a long time, but GTA4 has finally been released for the PC. I’m excited, even though I already have GTA4 for the Xbox 360 and GTA4 for the PS3. It’s Grand Theft Auto IV, you know?!

In the PC version, you get exclusives such as:

  • An in-game video editor to record your own gameplay for sharing.
  • The ability to customise your own radio station to play your own songs!

WCG interviews Sheylara!

So, there I was, innocently attending the World Cyber Games press conference as a member of the press, and then some peeps came up to me and said, “May we interview you, please?”

Which was kinda amusing, because press doesn’t get interviewed, press interviews. LOL.

Here’s the interview:

I should have told them about Gamer Girl Friday so they can mention it! But I kinda didn’t know at that time why and for what they were interviewing me. I just answered questions. Haha.

When I showed this to a friend, he rightly pointed out that I don’t speak like what’s reflected in that interview. A lot of what’s written has been dramatically rephrased from what I actually said (since there was no tape recorder present).

Guess I’m alright with that, as long as there are no scandalous misquotes.

WCG to attract female gamers

World Cyber Games, the world’s first global cyber games festival and perhaps the most well-known, is doing something right this year (in my books.)

In an attempt to attract casual and female gamers, WCG has included Guitar Hero 3 (Xbox 360 version) in its 2008 lineup!

I can’t tell yet whether this strategy has been successful so far, but it’s certainly gotten my attention. I want to take part in it, except that I haven’t got time to practise. Argh.

Here’s the lineup of official WCG games for 2008:

I believe some of the games still have slots left for registration if you want to take part. Sign up here for the Singapore National Finals, which will be held on August 7 and 8 in Suntec Convention Centre.

The Asian Championship will be held in Singapore on August 9 and 10.

Incidentally, there was an F1 simulator at the press conference so I did me some F1 racing.

Centrino 2 for enhanced laptop gaming

Intel has just released its new Centrino 2 processor, which is set to own the next generation of laptops.

Until now, there’s been a lack of gaming laptop choices. Not anymore!

Well, the chip wasn’t built specifically for gaming, but it’s been built to cater to gamers, too.

You can start checking out computer shops now for laptops with an “Intel Centrino 2 inside” sticker. But give it a few more months maybe, and more models carrying this chip will probably be released.

Intel took a bunch of journos out to sea to show off their new baby. These people sure know how to party!

But that’s not really relevant for this article, so let me show you something more relevant.

So, anyway, everything about the Centrino 2 is good. Faster, better, cooler everything. I don’t really want to elaborate on it because I’m not trying to be a salesman about it. So, go read about it yourself if you’re interested!

Neopets creators announce a new MMOG

Don’t judge me but I’m a huge Neopets fan.

Well, it is a good site and a great concept, even if it’s mostly for kids.

Neopets has constantly evolved over the years to meet new demands, which is good, although I didn’t like the last major overhaul when they commercialised almost everything. But I can’t blame them for doing that. A business has got to grow and make money.

This new MMOG is called Twin Skies and it will feature a persistent world, pets and mini games (which you play to affect what happens to you in the persistent world).

According to the FAQs, the game might impose a monthly fee to keep it ads free, but it’s still undecided.

I like the game concept, anyway. I might try it out when it’s launched goodness knows when, time permitting.

I said, don’t judge me!

Guitar Hero: World Tour plays on Rock Band

Much buzz has been generated from Activision’s recent announcement at E3. Apparently, you will be able to use Rock Band instruments to play Guitar Hero: World Tour.

That means Rock Band fans will be able to play GHWT without having to shell out ridiculous amounts of money to acquire yet more instruments.

This is a good direction. I was getting kind of worried that, by the time GHWT and RB2 releases, I’m going to have four guitars, three drum sets and three microphones fighting for space in my room.

The only duh spot in this is:

I don’t really want to play GHWT with RB1 drums. The GHWT drum set has five pads. RB1 only has four. Duh. One extra pad can make a lot of difference in terms of fun.

But it seems like Activision developers have hinted on the possibility of releasing updates to make GHWT and RB2 instruments compatible. Sweet if that happens.
