My first test drive was fun

Okay, this isn’t going to be a review because I’m not, like, an expert on cars.

This is just about me driving the New Polo. With photos!

I was invited to the impressive Volkswagen showroom to test-drive the New Polo, which was launched recently.

It was, unfortunately, raining that day but that didn’t dampen my experience one bit.

I was a little apprehensive about driving a brand new car (never before driven; I saw it being ferried to the showroom on a truck) in rainy weather, but I needn’t have worried. The car was as easy to control as if it weren’t raining.

Had to sign something before starting the drive. Can’t remember what it’s for.

Nanny Wen was my photographer. I found tons of rubbish photos in my camera at the end of the day. Like a photo of my open handbag sitting in the backseat of the car. (???) Or this photo of me getting into the car.

Who takes photos of people getting into the car??!

I didn’t notice at that time cos my camera is always on silent mode.

Anyway, let me share a few things I like about the New Polo.

The steering wheel is adjustable up, down, forward and backward!

So, between adjusting the wheel four ways and the seat several ways too, it’s possible to find the perfect comfortable position for driving.

Okay, and here’s something really trivial but which delighted me a lot. There’s like a drawer thing below the front seats to keep my barang barang!

The New Polo is probably the perfect car for first-time car owners or young couples. Well, or even young singles, actually. It was designed for adults who want something compact yet powerful enough and stylish (rather than cute).

The drive is smooth and stable and the fuel consumption is super low because it has a 7-speed DSG gearbox (which you don’t need to bother about if you don’t understand car stuff because it’s all automatic. Just know that it is extremely-to-the-max economical).

You’ll be getting something like 5.8l/100km with a CO2 emission of 135g/km.

Of course, it helps a lot that the car looks sporty and stylish on the outside.

And it’s spacious and comfy on the inside! (Um, I stole these photos from the VW website so it’s left-hand drive, lol, sorry.)

Oh, yeah, almost forgot. There’s also a convenient button you can press to activate or deactivate the passenger seat airbag. You deactivate it if you have a baby and you want to put the pram in the front passenger seat.

I don’t have a baby so I probably won’t use that button. But there’s something I’d love to use: the vanity mirror on the visor!

I don’t have a photo of it because, remember, Nanny Wen took lots of rubbish photos instead. (But I still love Nanny Wen. She’s a great companion and very cute rubbish photographer!)

Anyway, when you slide open the vanity mirror on the visor, lights come on! I can check and fix my makeup at dim carparks, before going for one of my events or whatever!

Back from the drive, happy!

Oh, guess who I bumped into at the Volkswagen showroom?

Mr Brown!

Mr Brown recently took the 30-hour New Polo challenge, which he has reported in detail on his blog.

Well, I had quite a good experience with the New Polo. It’s a great city car with lots of great features — fuel-efficient, safe, spacious, stylish, comfortable, quiet.

And the best thing? The price point starts at only SGD63,300.

30 hours, 11 stops, 1 tireless shopper

If you were to embark on a 30-hour journey around Singapore via a cushy car, where would you go?

I would go shopping!

Right. Don’t roll your eyes yet. Hear me out.

Say you’re given this car to drive around Singapore for 30 hours and you can choose to go anywhere and do anything.

Volkswagen New Polo

Any sane girl would go shopping, obviously. That’s what the car is for! It will take me to the less accessible malls in Singapore and carry all my shopping!

Wouldn’t that be a perfect weekend? For a girl, at least.

Sheylara and Minou

I’ve planned my non-stop weekend route at the Volkswagen Singapore New Polo microsite.

30-hour Route

There’s a contest going on, actually! Design the most interesting 30-hour non-stop weekend and win ZoukOut tickets!

Volkswagen New Polo

I don’t know if mine is the most interesting, but it’s something I’d want to do. You can view it in the users’ entries page by clicking my name.

I call my route the Suburban Shopping Escapade, filled with nothing but eating and shopping, at malls I normally don’t go to because they’re inaccessible and the Goonfather would flip if I asked him to drive me around for shopping.

Well, if you’re in the mood for a less bimbotic journey, how about checking out Mr Brown’s route?

Mr Brown, together with Ryan his sidekick, will literally be doing the 30-hour thing this weekend (Nov 21-22).

Mr Brown and Ryan

He will drive the New Polo around Singapore for 30 hours. His route is clearly mapped out on the microsite, so fans will be able to meet him at any of his stops for photographs, autographs, chats and goodie bags!

(Maybe some diehard fans might even tail him the entire journey. Haha.)

Oh, if you catch Mr Brown and Ryan at any of their stops and pose for some photos, your photos might appear on the microsite! Most of his stopovers are at carparks, so you can drive over to meet him. And maybe trade geeky opinions about cars, I don’t know.

Anyway, why not try out the route planner and share your favourite spots in Singapore? It’s really easy to use. Just drag the cute New Polo icons onto specific spots on the Google map provided, then type what you’re going to do there and when you’re done, submit!

Route planner

You will be given a unique URL for your created route.

After you’ve done that, do come back here to share your route. We can talk about cool places to go around Singapore with a cool car!

Association of Bloggers (Singapore). Funny

This is all over the Singapore blogosphere. A group of bloggers recently set up this government-endorsed association in the name of uniting and educating Singapore bloggers. Discussion over it has been free-flowing. Most of it hilarious.

Check out these recent tweets by prominent Singapore bloggers in response to the association.

In response to Cowboy Caleb‘s challenge, I extend this invitation:

It’s for a good cause. Really.
