Elizabeth Wong scandal: What’s the big deal with nudity?

The trouble with humanity is that it’s clueless.

Each time a slightly titillating incident occurs, everyone pounces on it as if it were the last popcorn in the bucket. They gawk and gape and savour the very lastness of it, refusing to let go until it’s made sodden and unrecognizable by the drool of every spectator in the seat.

What’s up with the Elizabeth Wong saga? It’s just a bunch of photographs of a woman sleeping, albeit in compromising positions and states of undress. Who hasn’t seen a sight like that before? The Internet is full of women volunteering such photographs. Go gawk at women who want to be gawked at and leave the unwilling alone.

Elizabeth Wong, the Malaysian politician who’s had the misfortune of having her nude photographs maliciously engineered and unethically distributed, is a human being, not a piece of popcorn. Why can’t people have the decency to allow her the privacy and dignity that every human deserves?

If your nude photos or videos were to be circulated around the world against your will, would you want people to treat you like a freak show exhibit?

For purely evolutionary reasons there is ample reason for people to have keen, but mostly subconscious, interest in the reproductive health of the tribe. Hence the business model of People magazine (who is with whom; who’s pregnant?). The trouble starts because everyone is also in competition with each other, so if someone is seen to break the rules… punishment! All sadly primitive.. but all too human.

Ooooooo….. writing about Malaysian politix…. that’s a bit sneaky and spicy…. be careful

How do you really know if she had her picture taken without permission? For all we know she gets a few millions after the dust settles. you are aware of the cross over politix happening recently right? This high profile crying publicity might just be her alibi to quit. who knows for sure.

Come to think of it, would you symphatize Najib when he cries like E Wong? They are politicians!!!!

    Sheylara,

I don’t get what the big deal is about nudity either?

The most baffling thing of all to me is when I see women at the gym that are so afraid to be seen nude by other women that they won’t shower in the women’s locker room and they drive home a sweaty and stinky mess, and if they change clothes it’s in a stinky and dirty toilet stall. Most of the women at my gym are not such prudes, but their are some prudes like I described.

Were all women in there and we all have the same parts. I find it silly and childish when some prudish women feel that they have to hide from other women in the locker room.

There are some cultures where women are not prudes around each other, and you may see grandmothers, daughters and granddaughters bathing along side other women who are complete strangers in bath houses and no one feels the slightest bit of shame.
