Oozing with cream

Fri, 24 August 2007 1:55 pm

I have a huge craving for pizza.

Ever since I ate at The Pizza Place more than a month ago, I’ve been wanting to go back there.

To think this outlet has been in Raffles City Shopping Centre forever but I’ve never tried it. I’ve walked past it a zillion times but I always choose someplace else to eat.

Well, the outside really looks quite unassuming and never attracted me to walk in.

The inside looks a bit more declicious.

But photos can be deceiving.

Anyway, I had the opportunity to finally try it because the Goonfather recently got to know the owner, who is part of his RX8 Club.

Gabriel entertained us with a show of dough spinning and flipping while making our pizza. He was really good at it!

We ordered a mixed pizza — half Chicken Royale and half The Carnivore.

OMG the Chicken Royale was really good. It’s what I’ve been craving the past weeks.

Chicken Royale ingredients: Creamy sauce, chicken, onions, green capsicum, pineapples, mozzarella, cheddar.

The creamy sauce just kills me.

The other half didn’t impress me too much because it has some bits of minced meat in it and I don’t really like minced meat.

The Carnivore ingredients: BBQ sauce, chicken, ground beef, beef bacon, turkey ham, beef pepperoni, prawns, squid, mozzarella.

But Ben (in green) liked it very much and, in fact, preferred it to the chicken.

Chef Gabriel took turns to have a picture with us.

Too bad he wasn’t wearing a chef’s uniform or he’d look like his logo!

The Pizza Place is at Raffles City Shopping Centre, The Raffles Marketplace, #B1-16.

And, no, this isn’t an advertorial. We didn’t even get free pizza lah.

My ass got fined

Wed, 22 August 2007 3:27 pm

I got my first ever speeding ticket for travelling at 90kmh on Nicoll Highway.

I’m so not happy because I think the speed limits in Singapore are ridiculous.

If every single person really were to travel below the limit all the time, we will have massive traffic jams 24/7 and Singapore will suffer a drastic decrease in productivity.

The majority of Singapore drivers are already driving slow enough! Why is our country rewarding slowpokes and penalising productive people?

In the first place, even 90kmh is too damn slow already. It feels like crawling. It feels like I can run faster than that (of course, technically, I know I can’t). 70kmh, which is the limit for Nicoll Highway, is worse. My granny can run faster than that.

I’m not saying remove speed limits. Of course, there has to be a limit but the current limits are total bullshit lah.

I don’t care about the money I have to pay for my fine. Or the demerit points. It’s just money and it will come back. Demerit points will expire.

But I can’t do it too often or my license will get suspended and I’ll go bankrupt.

So that means I have to be a “good girl” and drive slowly and hold up traffic on the roads.

I shall have a bumper sticker made that says:

“If I’m driving too slow for you, don’t blame me. Blame the papparazzi hiding in overhead bridges taking our photographs.”

Fashion Diary #12: High Tea

Tue, 21 August 2007 1:10 pm

Day 12

Name of outfit: High Tea

Self-Rating:

Destination: Photoshoot by Justyn Olby

Notes: I don’t know if you can tell, but I’m kinda running out of clothes. Hahaha. I mean, I still have a lot of clothes lah, but I don’t really like them that much. I used to wear this top a lot when my favourite colour was blue. But now I don’t really like it anymore.

It’s kinda weird how, after wearing a piece of clothing for some time, “favourite” becomes “yuck”. This is something I’ve been trying to figure out for ages but can’t really get a handle on.

That’s why, nowadays, I like to buy very cheap clothes so I can wear it for a while, get sick of it, and throw it away or use it as a rag or something.

I bought this top for like S$7 a year ago and have worn it everywhere, for every ocassion, from work to shopping to formal dinners to disco parties. You can’t quite tell from the photo but it’s actually a striped top (blue and white) and it’s about time it got retired.

The 16-hour shoot

Mon, 20 August 2007 2:55 pm

I didn’t take many photos during the 16-hour shoot I endured last week because I wasn’t really in the mood. But here’s one.

We had balloon props for a birthday party scene. Can you guess what object this balloon sculpture is supposed to be? I couldn’t.

One reason why I prefer playing leading roles is because you have so much more leeway to be creative.

I was at first very excited to get this role even though it was only a supporting role, because the character is much more colourful than the lead. I had fun thinking of all kinds of ways I could play this character.

But then, during my three-day shoot, I kept getting disappointed.

When you’re not the leading character, sometimes you don’t get the focus, you don’t get the close-ups, and you don’t get to execute all the brilliant ideas you have for the character because they don’t really care, because you’re not the lead.

But I still did enjoy the role. Just not as much as I thought I would.

That’s why I didn’t really have the mood to take photos. I just did my scenes and played with my DS Lite whenever I wasn’t needed.

It was around midnight when I whipped my camera out again because I met some actor friends who were involved in one of our night scenes.

This was quite a happy occasion, even though it was a hot night and we had to film in a location with no air-condition. Wearing party dresses.

Luckily, there was a bit of aircon in the makeshift makeup room, where we also dumped all our stuff.

I was done with my party scene, so had taken off my heels and was wearing my birkies while looking for my clothes for the next scene.

Off with the party dress and makeup. On with the glasses again.

This pair of prop glasses (no degree) is very uncomfortable. The bridge support is very short, so when I push it up to frame my eyes properly, the glasses press against my lashes and I can’t blink without feeling like my eyeballs are getting poked out. So, most of the time, the glasses are sitting low on my nose, making me look like a long-sighted granny trying to read the papers.

I hope I will look okay on TV.

By the way, I had to wear all my own clothes for this show because, nowadays, productions don’t have wardrobe budgets. I’ve had to wear the same clothes for different productions even. Where to find so many clothes to wear for different productions? I’m a poor freelance actress. They don’t pay us enough to even feed ourselves, much less buy clothes to wear for their productions.

So, if you’ve been following my fashion diary, you’ll probably recognise all the clothes I’m wearing in this production. Haha.

This 16-hour shoot, involving five different locations and seven outfit changes for me, marks the end of production. Like I mentioned before, I wasn’t tired at all, which was pretty weird. When I got home around 3 am, I was kinda depressed and couldn’t sleep.

I’m half looking forward to and half dreading watching it on TV when it airs next month.

Gimme the Citi Clear Card

Fri, 17 August 2007 7:18 pm

Advertorial

Wahaha. I’m evil. I’ve been encouraging all my student friends to apply for the new Citi Clear Card so they will stop bugging me to help them pay their online gaming subscriptions with my credit card.

I really think this card is quite brilliant, being the first credit card in Singapore that doesn’t require a minimum income.

There are people who believe that students shouldn’t be given credit cards but I don’t see why not. I was given a supplementary credit card when I went overseas to study and I didn’t abuse the card, even though I didn’t have to worry about paying credit card bills (all paid for by my doting dad).

Students who are getting the Citi Clear Card on their own most probably have to pay their own bills, so wouldn’t that make them more wary of over-signing?

OMG can you imagine what this means to gamers?? You can now play any MMORPG you want to without having to beg your parents, aunties, uncles, working siblings or friends to let you use their credit card!

Let’s play Warhammer Online together when it launches, ok?

I am quite jealous. Why didn’t Citibank come up with this idea when I was a student? I would have felt so cool and trendy using the Citi Clear Card instead of my dad’s gold card, which is so… well, so not fitting a trendy youngster’s image lah.

Actually, I have been a loyal customer of the Citibank Clear Card since it was first launched in 2002. (This was the first Clear Card with a minimum income requirement of $30,000.) Yes, that’s my first and only self-acquired credit card and I’m still using it. I’ve been really pleased with it all these years because there are always promotional tie-ins and discounts at my favourite restaurants and retail stores.

About half a year ago, Citibank upgraded my Clear Card to a Clear Platinum Card. I didn’t know it then, but NOW I know it was to make way for the Citi Clear Card for tertiary students and working adults who don’t want to bother with having to prove their income.

So, whaddya know, now the Clear Card and all its cool benefits can be enjoyed by even students. Can you blame me for being jealous? I had to work for my Clear Card in the past!

If I were still a student, I would definitely get one. It’s really quite tough to get around without a credit card these days. I mean, you need a credit card for just about anything: Book movie tickets online, play online games, buy stuff online because there are so many things you can’t get in Singapore (but don’t buy banned products or they’ll get confiscated by the gahmen, lol).

So, all you students, go apply for your own Citi Clear Card and stop bugging me to lend you my credit card. Hmm, then again, I don’t really mind doing that because I can earn rewards points off you. Haha.

Nah. Go earn your own rewards points. Just remember to be responsible with your spending and don’t spend more than you can afford to pay or your parents will disown you if they keep having to clear your debts for you. Haha.

If you’re gonna apply for the card, do it before Sep 30 to get a one-year fee waiver and a $100 Tivoli voucher. So cool lor.

Actually, I don’t know what Tivoli is. Gosh, I’m so out of touch and not cool anymore. *sob*

Click here to find out more and apply.

Have fun!

But have fun responsibly! (Must put advisory warning or else later kena bash for encouraging students to anyhow spend money.)
