Bombing of WWE Chairman a hoax?

Wed, 13 June 2007 1:35 am

Yeah, I know. I don’t even like wrestling.

So I don’t know why I even bothered to play the YouTube video Kingmeng just posted in his blog. He didn’t even say what it’s about, just that it has to do with WWE.

[Edit: Video has been taken down by YouTube]

But I did play it (I can’t remember why, I must be nuts) and it made my jaws drop all the way to the ground. I felt compelled to check out the WWE website for more info.

The gist of it is that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is presumed dead from a deliberate car bombing incident.

When I read the report in the WWE website, I felt like I was reading a story because the whole thing seemed unreal. Especially since there’s a well-shot video of the incident, plus investigators have yet to find a body in the wreckage. Interesting in a macabre, horrifying way.

So I watched the video again and this time noticed many strange things. The strange way McMahon behaved the two minutes prior to getting into his limo, the way his hand lingered hesitantly on the limo handle before opening it, the way it took him 10 seconds to close his limo door after getting in, the way he didn’t have an escort or people opening the door for him (don’t rich and famous people always have that?), the way he seemed to know something.

All these make the whole incident look planned. I decided that it must be some kind of trick. Judging by the video, it is quite possible for him to make an escape before the limo goes up into flames. If not a trick, then I would say suicide. Watch the video and see if you don’t agree.

So I did some googling and found this article and this other one confirming my suspicions that the incident is fake. (But there are many more articles that refrain from speculation and embrace the incident as genuine.)

Well, Kingmeng mentioned the word “stunt” in his post, so I suppose he doesn’t believe for a moment that it’s real, either.

Chey.

Er… not that I want it to be real. Just that my interest has been piqued. If it’s a publicity stunt, like some WWE fans suspect it could be, it’s pretty damn good. If it’s not and the bombing is real, then I’m horrified and express my heartfelt sympathies to the family of the victim.

I suppose nobody dares to presume anything before the body, or the man himself, makes an appearance.

looks so fake. but probably because i read your post as i watched along and skipped to the juicy part. O_o
i have a tendency to do that.. read a book half way then skip to the back for the ending then continue reading again. muahaha.

Yeah, I know you do that. You are so totally missing out on one of the greatest joys in life, of feeling suspense build up and then being shocked or surprised by the ending. What you do is like having an instant orgasm without the foreplay. It’s nice but you’re missing out on the fun.

When I watched the video, I was bored and annoyed because I didn’t know this guy and I was wondering when he will stop strutting around with this smug look on his face. I waited for 2 minutes for something to happen. And when it did happen, the impact was greater, like, OMG. Like, my jaws wouldn’t have dropped if I had fast- forwarded to the last part straightaway. :P

Yes, jaw dropping is an enjoyable thing. lol.

The video has been removed from youtube.

Reason it has been banned, is due to WWE’s policy with clips in YouTube.

Anyway, more info: The McMahon death angle has been planned for weeks. WWE started getting the permits needed to do it several weeks back and shot the angle Sunday night with the help of a pyrotechnics firm. The footage of Mr. McMahon getting into the limo was live and then spliced with the taped footage. WWE put a burnt limo outside the arena so fans would see it as they left.

Wah… I’m glad I managed to watch it before they removed it. Thanks KM for the update! I’m surprised they release this news so fast. lol. Are fans angry with this stunt?

You can still view the video at http://www.wwe.com. News? More like inside information from some wrestling websites…

As for the fans, they’re split into 2 factions.

- Love it
A fresh wrestling angle that have never been used, and the whole summer will be spent on a ‘who-dunnit’ mystery.

- Hate it
It blurs the lines between reality & fiction: how are you to explain that Mr. McMahon is dead on-air, yet he’s still running the day-to-day operations?
Also, some dislike the taste of watching a wrestling death, while others find it too dramatic, and wondered if it’s gonna be a huge letdown once the ‘murderer’ is found.

If you’ve been watching the show, you’ll always have doubts about whether it’s real or not. For once, I thought the death of Eddie Guerrero was just part of the storyline. But I was wrong. In this Mr. McMahon’s case, it seems that IT IS part of the normal RAW/Smackdown!/ECW storyline. We’ll see the effects of this in future broadcasts of the show. Maybe a little “McManhon has risen from his grave” stuff… or “I have fooled all of you fans”… or “Just part of his masterplan thing”… I don’t know. But we’ll see… :D

Not the first “death” on WWE. Torrie Wilson’s dad supposedly died after a woohoo with Dawn Marie.

Was a bit different for Eddie. I recall they quoted hospital or police sources. Will be tough and maybe even illegal to do that if its a publicity stunt. Also, any true wrestling fan would know that Eddie did have a history with substance abuse & that unfortunately usually does lead to death directly or through complications.

Anyways, if you check Wikipedia, it’ll give you quite a clear picture. Just as it was the on screen Vince who was being unfaithful to his wife, it is the on screen Vince who died.

The onscreen “Mr McMahon” was a character much like the personnas of Mick Foley or the numerous personnas over the years of Stone Cold. McMahon is probably just wanting to get out of the storyline for awhile so he killed off the character. You can read this article from the Wilkes-Barre citizensvoice newspaper here.

Kingmeng: Whole summer spent on whodunnit mystery? But I thought everyone knows the truth already, that it’s a publicity stunt. So… where else is there to talk about it?

modchip: That’s interesting. I never knew WWE had so much nonsense. :P I always thought it’s stupid and boring to see two chunky men trying to kill each other, over and over again.

Derrick: Eh… these people are weird. They’re really blurring the lines between fiction and reality and making people confused!

Bruce: That’s really bizarre!!

It’s actually the same as watching a play. There’s a plot, there’s audience interaction, there are props.. etc. That is why it’s now called “Sports Entertainment”.

Well anyways, Mr. Mcmahon now emerges from the grave as I expected… maybe to prove that the death of another superstar, Chris Benoit is not part of the storyline. :P

Haha, I find it all damn weird. But I suppose it’s entertaining. Not the real death, but the fake drama.
