Something in my eyes

Sat, 9 December 2006 2:29 am

Look, ma, brown eyes!

I mean, lighter brown eyes!

I know it’s pretty scary having my big face staring at you like that.

But check out the eye colour. Is it cool or what!

Okay, that’s not a very clear picture because it was taken indoors.

The brown shows up more when I go outdoors and face the sun.

Yah lah, I very sua ku can?

(And I look slightly crossed-eyed because I was holding the camera, like, five inches from my face and staring straight into the camera lens.)

I’ve never worn a single pair of contact lenses in my life. But when Elyxia managed to wrangle a sample pair of disposable tinted lenses from her optician, I couldn’t resist.

Actually, it looks weirder in real life than it does in the pictures. It seems fake if you look at it closely in person.

But it’s still fun. I want to try gray next! Maybe even blue. Nanny Wen has a pair of gray ones and she looks gorgeous in them!

It was scary though.

I mean, it was a piece of cake putting them on, but removing them was traumatising. It took me several minutes of clutching at air with my fingers before I finally felt the lens peel away from my eyes. Eew. For moments, I thought I was going to have lenses stuck to my eyeballs forever.

I told myself I didn’t want to be putting anything in my eyes, ever, for the rest of my life.

But that was last week.

Now, the trauma of lens removing is distant and fading and I’m already thinking of ways to acquire more sample lenses in different colours.

Anyone in the contact lens business?

I used to wear them.
But I freaked people out with my choice of green, violet….

Think the most natural colours are still brown, grey and dark blue.

too drying for me…and they wouldn’t stay put properly.
So gave them up.

I think these 2 pics are mesmerising! I like the first one especially, but the 2nd one is great too. =))

Minou: Hey, how come I never see you with tinted lenses before? :P For me, the problem was after I put them on, my peripheral vision got cloudy, so it’s kinda irritating. But other than that, my eyes felt ok. So, maybe I’ll try another brand next time. :P

RN: Heh, thanks. I think the second pic looks more “fake” cos the brown is lighter. :P

Always relieved to have perfect eyesight.
I think putting them on solely for aesthetique purposes is bad.

Why? Will it harm the eyes?

To add on to yh’s comments, zero-powered decorative contact lenses carry the same ocular risks as other lenses designed for vision correction. There is the issue of fitment which a properly trained practitioner can judge and advise. Whilst you may be using disposable lenses, pay heed to hygiene when handling the lenses as it carries the latent risk of corneal ulcers in the worst case scenario. It is normal to struggle initially when you are removing the lenses especially when your eyes are dry. Do not be afraid to bring your fingers down to your eyeball to lightly grip the lenses. You will adapt the finger pressure accordingly with time.

There might be no need to wear zero-powered decorative contact lenses. You look wonderful as it is =)

Nice pics.
Looks like a Japanese doll face. :D

Gave them up after they kept affecting my vision.
And the dryness was horrible.
But still tempted once in a while to try them. hahaha

I’m amazed at how easily you managed to put on the contact lens. When I first got mine, I experienced a lot of discomfort and had to take them off after less than half a day.

I think you would look great in light brown/hazel or grey!

Too bad I can’t use extreme colors because my work doesn’t permit it :(

For hygiene purposes, wash your fingertips with saline solution before handling the lens. Just tap water isn’t enough. Also, try to get 1-day lens for a start - more expensive, but you don’t need to go through the trouble of washing them. When I just started with lens, I ruined a few pairs through careless washing (they ripped) and dropping (literally $$$ down the drain :P)

I still have a pair of Misty Grey coloured ones though I can’t stand wearing them since coloured contacts are bigger, and hence cover more of your eyeball and makes your eyes drier.

Daily disposables are good for casual wearers and definitely more cost effective IMO.

Well, there is also the option of the black tinted ones.

However, be forewarned that this is a 50-50 risk for it is a thin line separating looking like Sailor Moon and Sadako. :)

It should be the prior for you given that you have a fringe.

Think about it. hur hur…..

Dennis: Thanks for the compliment, but I guess once in a while, it’s kinda fun to look different. Just like how people vary their clothes, hairstyles, makeup colours, hair colour, etc, coloured contact lenses just give a different look for fun. :P

Sunny: LOL. Like doll face with fake eyeballs? :P

Minou: Hehe… I suppose it’s ok to wear once in a while. Just for the heck of it!

Elyxia: Haha, putting stuff in the eye is easy wat, just stick it on, like pasting a bling bling on the face. But taking it off is scary cos it’s almost like you gonna poke out your eyeballs. I haven’t heard of people washing fingers with saline solution before. Don’t you use up your bottles of saline very fast, then?

Alvinaloy: Cool! Didn’t know you also have coloured lenses! I don’t think I’ve seen you in them before?

JayWalk: Why would I want to wear black tinted lenses?? O_o Black pupils so scary…

I’m using a Lumix DMC FX-01. I guess it’s pretty good. I didn’t photoshop any lighting or effects but I erased all my facial blemishes, haha.

It looks odd. I saw an Oriental girl once on the bus with blue contact lenses, she looked really freaky. I know it’s fun but keep your natural colour and stay who you really are!

Qiaoyun wrote a comment on Fri, 13 July 2007

Well, I kinda see it as experimenting with hair colour or even makeup colour and clothing styles. Not too much difference. But I know what you mean! ;)
